Mainstream Vegan

A couple companies that I am a fan of have recently come out with vegan collections! The first is Free People's Vegan Leather collection. Honestly, I probably would never wear most of these items because even pre-vegan I was never a huge fan of big leather pieces. I do like the shorts and I think I'm digging the pullover with the random leather sleeves. Too soon to call though. I may just be trying to talk myself into it which I have an weird tendency to do with awkward items of clothing. Either way, I don't think I'll be dropping $98 on a shirt or shorts anytime soon. But if you have money laying around and need leather sleeves more power to ya! Stay the fuck away from that jacket though, they put wool in the lining. Wool in a jacket that is part of a VEGAN collection. Sigh. While it's nice when bigger companies try to jump on the vegan bandwagon for a hot second, this is exactly why 100% vegan companies deserve as much of our business as possible. Especially if you are lazy and don't like reading fine print.

The other company bustin' out with some vegan awesomeness is Jeffrey Campbell. I LOVE Jeffrey Campbell shoes. Mostly for inspiration since the majority of their footwear is leather, leather, and more leather, but every once in a while they have some accidentally vegan styles that are amazing. JC is teaming up with Convert, a eco-friendly store in Berkeley to do this exclusive collaboration. The vegan line comes out early fall, but it's unclear whether the shoes will only be available at the physical store location or if they will be able to be purchased online as well. I like the "99 Tie" style, but I'm really swooning over the "Vita," a vegan version of the popular "Lita" style.

Vita
Not to be a buzzkill (psh I'm totally going to be a buzzkill!), but I was kind of expecting more from both of these companies just because I'm such a huge fan of their "regular" lines. I think the leather jacket from Free People would have been the most wearable item in their collection, but then they went and put wool in it like a bunch of crazies. I do love the Vita from JC/Convert, but the rest of it fell a little flat for me. If Jeffrey Campbell is doing an exclusively vegan collection, I want cray-cray, nuts-o, beautiful shoes that look like they belong right up there with his normal line and just happen to be vegan. It's easy to find vegan flats. That said, I'm still super-duper excited these lines are coming from such popular mainstream companies. Hopefully they continue to do capsule vegan collections every season (minus the wool A-HEM)!

I need more money for shoes.

Maybe someday I'll post more than three times a year. BUT PROBABLY NOT : ) Here's some quick stuff I think is amazing right now and I want someone with more money than I possess to buy so I can live vicariously through them...

Stella McCartney pumps that would be perfect for wedding season! On SALE at Net-A-Porter.com for almost half off!

Another pair of Stella's for half off at Net-A-Porter. I really like the nude shoe trend going on right now.

Here's a way more affordable pair from Lulu's just so you know I very rarely spent hundreds of dollars on shoes. Except Cri-de-Coeur. I am their bitch and I can't say no.

Nude shoes are unintentionally hijacking this post. Another pair from Lulu's.

Color! I LOVE these. Perfect for summer with some cuffed jeans and a tank. Lulu's.
I like the crochet details showing up in footwear, but it just seems  kind of fragile to me. At least this ModCloth pair isn't too expensive.

I love this Obey backpack. It's the perfect size for summer concerts and festivals. Obey actually uses alot of faux leather in their bags, clothing, belts, etc. Just read carefully : )

New backpack from Matt and Nat which I probably need since my cat used a pile of my purses as his own luxury litter box and I had to toss all of them.

I know it seems like I probably run around ass naked except for a fanny pack and heels (ok I do, but only when I'm home alone), but I assure you I do wear clothes. Vegan clothes are just way less of an exciting find than an amazing bag or pair of shoes.

Because you have to get out of bed eventually...

The weather is balls in Tacoma right now. Snow was covering the roads when I got off work last night and my car was sliding all over the road when I left. I should have gone straight home, but instead I drove to the store to get nutritional yeast because if there is one thing worth risking my life over it is nutritional yeast. Except the store was OUT OF NUTRITIONAL YEAST. Well they had the powdery kind, but it's flakes or nothing for me because the powdery kind is worthless and gross. I like hyperbole. So I went home with a bunch of stuff I had no intent of buying and cranked my heat up and made some delicious food from Appetite for Reduction. I have cooked almost exclusively from this book for the past couple days and I can already tell it is going to be one of my most-used cookbooks. I'm going to post a bunch of the stuff I've made from it over at Deuce Nickel Tre Vegans soon-ish. Anyway, my whole point is it's cold and gross and I want sweaters. Unfortunately, I keep spending all my money on shoes, so all of you out there who don't have a shoe addiction can buy these and I'll live vicariously through you.

Vaute Couture got some cozy perfect-for-leggings oversized sweatshirts in. If I had unlimited funds, all of my outerwear would be Vaute Couture. It is such an amazing company, speaking from ethical and design standpoints. I do have one of their coats from last season that I lucked out on and got for half off and it is stunning. The coats are definitely investment pieces, but the tees, sweatshirts, and jewelry are totally affordable! The black rabbit sweatshirt is my favorite.

I love the whole baggy, oversized sweater trend going on right now, the only problem is I feel like I can find amazing hobo sweaters at thrift stores pretty easily so why would I spend a lot of money on a new one? I found one of my favorite sweaters ever at a Goodwill Outlet in Portland where they charge by the pound. But I'm not always in the mood for digging and sometimes there are no second-hand treasures to be found, especially since wool sneaks its way into sweaters like nobody's business. Urban Outfitters always has a ton of wool-free sweaters and cardigans and their sale racks seriously can't be beat. I just got these two Kimchi and Blue faux fur jackets that were originally $148 each on sale for $25 a piece:

Yes, I got both colors! The price was too good to say no! I'm totally gonna wear the black one in a crazy Black Swan-ish type outfit for an Oscar party I'm going to. On to stuff I haven't already bought...

ModCloth is one of my favorite places for vintage looking dresses and non-leather shoes. They also have some cute cruelty-free sweaters and outerwear.

There are a few things I've been eyeing over at Nasty Gal as well.

If you're wondering why I refuse to wear wool, here's some info. If you are against wearing fur, wool and leather are just as bad and much more common. Or watch Skin Trade, an excellent documentary by an award-winning director.
